Not on standard upholstery weaves. The blade oscillates rather than rotates, so it sweeps across the surface without grabbing threads. On loose-weave fabrics or anything with exposed warp threads, test a hidden spot first — if you feel the device hitch, stop using it there.

Yes — removable cushions and pillows are where it shines, because you can lay them flat and work methodically. Unzip the cover where possible and shave the outer fabric on a table instead of on the sofa.

Every three or four uses, or whenever the blade starts sounding louder than usual. Put a drop or two of the included lubricating oil on the blade, run the device briefly over a lint-free cloth to work it in, and wipe off the excess. Don’t shave upholstery for a few hours afterward — you don’t want oil on the cushions.

Turn the device off, flip it over, and use the included brush to sweep lint out of the blade area. A sticky stretch of lint can be lifted with tape if the brush doesn’t get it — don’t pry with a metal tool.
